Throughout its history, gin has undergone an extensive metamorphosis. The spirit was vilified as ‘mother’s ruin’ in the 18th century, while illegal bathtub operations defined gin in the Prohibition era. In the 1950s and ’60s, gin became a home-bar staple of the post-war suburbs, finally evolving into its current guise as a trendy cocktail ingredient renowned the world over.
